Captain Squid & The Tentacle Room

Adventures In Life, Love & Art

Michael McCall writes about the passions of being an artist. Born at a time when ethics and hard work were paramount, he describes and illustrates his journey through the trials of life, the adventure of art making, and the loves of his life which helped shaped his path.

As a creative and independent child, he forged ahead into adulthood with reckless abandoned, making his way to the southernmost point of the nation, where he became Captain Squid. The Captain created a speakeasy off the shores of Key West called the Tentacle Room. This speakeasy became a sociological art project that traveled with him from studio to studio, from Key West to DC to LA… creating an artistic society of like-minded mischief-makers. His mentors and influential friends along the way helped to define and shape his approach, beautifully relayed in this full memoir. It is an endearing account of one artist’s will to survive in a dog-eat-dog world while fighting his own demons, not giving in to compromise.

As Ed Ruscha put it… “it’s more than wooly ride, tropical drink and sixpack cinema. No time to adjust the bow tie, hop in, tops down, no seat belt.”

The book is available on Amazon under the title.

Also, check out the website, www.tentacleroom.com
